Professional Experience

Pfizer / Zoetis  – Durham, NC                                                                           2010 to Present

Animal Health Division

    Engineering Bio-Devices:

Created and tested Next Generation In-Ovo (In the Egg) Vaccination System prototypes for the Animal Health Division. The creation and development began with the electrical control and pneumatic systems and continued through the prototype build and concluded with final testing including  TUV compliance and field trials.

The devices include:

  • Next Generation machine that would identify and remove clear (nonviable) eggs before vaccinating and transferring into hatching baskets up to the rate of 60K eggs and  hour.  The devices varied in configuration to accommodate the different flat/incubator designs.
  • 20K per hour ER Heartbeat detection system which detects and handles Poultry Eggs used in the Flu Vaccine Industry.
  • Small  scale In-Ovo systems for research and low volume hatcheries.
  • Many custom test devices utilizing PLC controls for automation.

Sony Ericsson Communications – RTP, NC                                                                2000 to 2010

Cell Phone Design Division

Engineering Technician - Engineering Test Lab lead:

  • Created a lab test environment to support a global testing system that mimics the wear and abuse cell phones are subjected to in the real world.  Developed tests and equipment that are 75% custom and involve Solar, vibration, shock, impact, heat/humidity and life cycle of components. This included custom designing, fabrication, wiring, programming, documentation and training.
  • Created safety tests which encompassed thermal, charging and human interface that developed internal standards.
  • Designed a unique life cycle test chamber that incorporated Heat, Humidity, multi axis vibration and radio testing.
  • Performed full system level competitive analysis testing that included the teardowns and Root Cause Analysis of failed components. Results and ideas were then fed back to design and included in lessons learned.
  • Investigated and procured all items for three departments including capital equipment up to $100,000 and provided monthly and annual reports to assist in the annual budgets proposals.
  • Performed HALT (Highly Accelerated Life Test) to identify component failures and enhance design ruggedness.
  • Provided mentoring and support to junior team members to create a self-reliant team.

  • Designed organized, hired staff and managed a Medical Device Test and Evaluation Department.
    •  Created and supervised a Calibration Lab which obtained ISO9000 certification within 3 months.
    •  Built and supervised an engineering prototype lab which complied with corporate safety, regulatory, FDA,                      OSHA and EPA standards.
    •  Worked with and supported outside engineering firms on several medical projects.
    •  Supported the Intellectual Property Department by providing input and explanations of patents filed by an  acquired company.
      ·  Designed, built, programmed and evaluated breadboards and Pre-Production Sterilization units.  Starting at concept phase and continued through final verification and training production technicians.
    •  Work with Scientists and Micro Biologists in the development and design changes necessary for product efficacy.
    •  Trained and mentored both Manufacturing and Engineering Technicians.
    •  Design and assisted technicians in the building of life cycle test fixtures and test chambers.
